STANDSTILL

Standstill

Human life has greatly changed into a rush towards making the most out of every single day, every single minute, and every single moment. With our desire to live life to the fullest, or even just our instinct to survive, many of us have often forgotten to slow down and be still for just a fleeting moment to simply be.

STANDSTILL is drawn out of the desire of five photographers (Fitz Borre, IC Quintos, Jay-Rness Ceria, Kevin Paul Zilabbo, and Nicco Valenzuela) to show us the wonderful things that we might often miss. It is an exhibit featuring works that illustrate the simple yet breathtaking scenes of life and nature, and a glimpse into the eyes of someone who chooses to stop, exist, observe, and bear witness to what the world often overlooks.

The featured photographers--with varying photographic styles, subjects, and aesthetic preferences--are brought together and driven by the simple desire to illustrate the moments-in-between of life as we normally live it. This exhibit puts together images that aim not to overwhelm with the spectacular, but instead seek to effect a change of pace for the viewers to see more of the world and experience more in our lives.

STANDSTILL features photographs of the simple wonders, the everyday marvels, and the moments that we often take for granted. This collection celebrates the beauty of a life not driven by struggle and haste, but instead one that is moved by the joy of simply being present.

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, with the constant changes and the celerity of both growth and destruction, with the impermanence of life and the finality of its end, STANDSTILL asks us a compelling question: whether life is a futile journey towards an end, or a celebration of the intricacies that make it worth living.
